This guide is intended for facilitators who may be interested in running a workshop about game design with young people. It is suitable for facilitators who may not have prior knowledge of game design and are working with participants who do not have prior experience of game design or development.

This guide is also suitable for facilitators and participants who may have some experience of game design and development. However, the guide does require both facilitators and participants to have some experience of playing digital games in order to understand the terminology and references to game components, such as “player” and “mechanics.”

This guide relates to facilitating a workshop to help participants learn about and practice game design, specifically through exercises relating to “game pillars.”

This exercise was created by Anzal Baig on behalf of Tinderbox Collective, and is part of a collection of short digital exercises created by members of our team. These exercises dive into different parts of how to make games, inspired by games!
